Joana Caetano

My name is Joana Caetano and I live in Porto.
I was born in Castelo de Paiva in 1980. When was little I love very much to draw, to compose, little flowers, bread and ride bicycle. I also loved to watch my mother knitting. It always fascinated me the power of her hands, that with only “two chopsticks” could create such beautiful and complex pieces.
I learn to embroider much later, in 2009, the traditional embroidery from Guimarães was love at first sight. Embroidery was a revelation to me and since then I didn´t stop practising and searching for news ways to explore this technique. I search books, I understood stitches, all with a lot of experimentation and lots of needle bites!
I created my own project connected to embroidery, named “Jubela”, a brand of products and services that is known for the use of author drawings with inspiration from popular culture, music and other themes.
I give embroidery lessons, it is for me very gratifying to share this beautiful technique with others!
