André de Castro

André de Castro is a knitwear designer, researcher and instructor based in Porto, Portugal. His first training was as a classical violinist, but love of textiles and clothes led him to study Fashion Design and Illustration.

From that moment he was totally surrendered and since then he has been traveling around Europeand the world to learn and develop in depth the most diverse aspects related to the subject.

At this moment his focus is the Portuguese Style of Knitting and spreading this tradition abroad using the techniques from Portugal as a source of inspiration. André’s other passions include history and knitting traditions from around the world… so he decided to develop a way of using the Portuguese Style and apply it to all kinds of knitting techniques to make them more effective, simple, and quick to execute. André also designs knitwear under the brand ANDREKNITS, and he teaches regularly as member in Vogue Knitting (US) and other international knitting festivals and events as Perth Festival of Yarn (Scotland), Stitches Events (US), Barcelona Knits (Barcelona), Knoble Yarn Fest in Colorado (US), Le Fil de la Manche in France, Wool Monty in Sheffield. He makes also regularly knitting retreats in Italy. Some of the upcoming projects will be participating in the Shetland Wool Week, and some other festivals in the US.
